HTBC bikepacking event June 2021 - The Saxon Way

by Jane Lucas, 29 Mar 21.

Following on from last year's very successful Bishop's Way bikepacking event, which shifted overnight all-inclusive mountain bike/gravel bike events into a whole new gear, Heath Trail Bike Camp now present The Saxon Way. Starting in north Hampshire, you'll ride for 2 days through Hampshire and Surrey following a GPX route. This year there'll be a choice of routes on Saturday of 40 or 65 miles, with Sunday's route being around 35 miles.

The ride is self-supported, but passes through plenty of villages where you can buy food and snacks or visit cafes and pubs to keep you energised. If you haven't yet discovered the joys of bikepacking with all your kit then no worries, as we're repeating our well received camp kit porterage option.

Friday 4 June (optional)

If you wish, there's an option to camp or bivi overnight at the start. There'll be on site locked parking with toilets and an excellent pub nearby.

Saturday 5 June

You can arrive at the start from 7.30am, there'll be ample parking. Sign in and to be ready to leave from 9.00am, then follow the GPX through some of the best tracks, bridleways and trails along our Saxon Way route to your woodland overnight stop. Then sign in, set up your tent, bivi or hammock in the woods or grassy glades and enjoy your inclusive meal and drinks (vegetarian & vegan options available). Relax and socialise around the fire pit especially extended to allow for social distancing. Clean event portaloos and water will be available. If you opt for porterage, your kit will be waiting for you when you arrive.

Sunday 6 June

After an all inclusive breakfast you'll pack up, sign out then follow a different 35 mile route back to the start, where the team will welcome you back at sign in with a goody bag. Then you can enjoy a well earned pint or two in the pub to celebrate finishing your adventure.

If you sign up, you'll receive regular event updates including what you'll need in the way of kit, tips to get the most out of the event and further details about the venues and route.

Final Instructions containing full information & the GPX of both days routes will be emailed to riders 1 week before the event.
