Categories and Start Times

There are two types of category: age related and ability related. Categories will be as listed below but may be combined if there are insufficient numbers. If you are new to racing and our events or unsure of your stamina or ability level you are advised to enter the Beginners or Fun categories (you can always move up a category at the next event). Age categories are determined by your age on the 31 December.

Lap lengths are based on time more than distance, so an average rider could lap in 30 minutes, a fast rider in 22 to 24 minutes. This tends to equate to between 4 and 5 miles, though it's not scientific as terrain and weather conditions can alter things! All categories race on the same length lap, with the exception of the under 11's and under 13's who compete on a modified course with a slightly shorter lap (approx 3/4 length) with less technical features.

All blocks of races will be announced at 15 minutes, 5 minutes and 1 minute. Riders are responsible for being at the start in time for their race. The start will be by the sounding of a horn within 10 seconds of the starter announcing the race. We try to announce each finisher, but it's down to you to remember how many laps you've completed and when to finish. Start lines will NOT be gridded, it is up to you to choose how near or far from the front you wish to be. Be sensible though, if you know you'll get lapped by the leaders there's not much point starting on the front row!

Entering an event

Event Registration will open at 8am and you will need to go there when you arrive to either collect your number board or to fill in an entry form to enter on the day.

If you wish to pre-enter an event, you can use the Go to Online Entry buttons on this web site which saves you the £3 on the day surcharge* and time queuing, as you will be able to take your own number from Entry Express. Category changes are free up to the closing date for pre-entries but if you want to change over on the day you will need to complete a new entry form and pay £3.

Please read the Terms and Conditions of Entry on this web site carefully and note that the Club cannot issue a refund once an order has been placed. If, for any reason, you cannot ride at an event that you have entered, then if you let us know before the pre-entry closure deadline, we will offer you a credit towards a future event, after that it is too late.

*Armed Forces riders, Youth, Juvenile, Under 11ís & Under 13ís riders do not pay the Entry on the Day surcharge.
