Leith Hill TrailTrax results

New venue The Parrot Inn at the foot of Leith Hill hosted the first TrailTrax of 2006. A sudden change in the weather of late made for damp going but with so much rain it washed away most of the mud, but not your smiles. Comments on finishing ranged from "I haven't had so much fun in ages," to "That was excellent, the best I've ever done," and finally "That was grim!" said with a wry smile.

There were some noteworthy placings today: Malcom Rae finally got the better of Nick Dean in Grand Vet's. Though it might have been even closer if Nick hadn't trimmed his map down then got it soaked in rain water! Hmm, I think there's a lesson to be learnt.

In Mixed Pairs solo regular John Hill-Venning was partnered by Joanne Henderson who looked a little the worse for wear on their return, probably down to John's fast pace. They scored an impressive 1730 points, the highest of the day, missing just two checkpoints.

Gary Shipp and Paul Smith timed their finish to perfection in 3 hours dead taking the Pairs with 1620. As did Jon Acornley winning Vet Solo's with 1550. Michael Rackham and Glenn Wass gave themselves a couple of minutes grace to win Vet Pairs with 1490.

James Tyson took a gamble on finishing 27 minutes overdue but fortunately he'd scored enough to remain clear of second with 1300.

Spit roast pig
The only thing to stay warm and dry all day.
The spit roast pig was a taste to behold.
