Rally Raid at Alton - 4th July

by Jon Lucas, 25 Jun 04.

Starting at the French Horn, The Butts, Alton. This is a great new venue for us, where we have the use of the skittle alley for registration, plenty of choice of real ales to sample and great food. The venue is near the centre of Alton and is easily reached and signed from the A31, by taking the A339 slip road signed for Alton. With parking just 200 yards from here in Old Winchester Road just the other side of the railway bridge from the pub.

For those of you not familiar with the Rally Raid format, it is a navigation event finding your way from checkpoint to checkpoint where you choose the route but also keeping to a time schedule. You will lose points for arriving early or late at the Timechecks but you have a choice of which time schedule to follow, so these events suit beginners as well as racers. The faster schedules cover around 35 miles while Novice and Fun riders will cover around 22 miles.

Registration opens at 8am with the last rider away at 10.00am and entering on the day is fine. Every competitor who finishes will receive an award from our event sponsors 1st Gear Cycles of Alton.

Looking to August we return to one of your favourite venues for a TrailTrax at Hawkley on 8th August and then we have an extra TrailTrax on the 29th at The Northbrook Arms at East Stratton.
