Who could have asked for a better October day; warm sunshine, dry trails and a moonlit sky for the night races. A new concept in mountain bike racing A Hard Day's Night pitted riders speed and endurance over two races, one during daylight the second in full darkness. The 2.1 mile sprint lap over Porridgepot Hills finest trails made for sub 10 minute lap times for some but even slower riders still got to complete a multitude of laps, always saving just enough energy to complete the Concrete Hill one more time! USE provided the prizes with their new SUMO post going to the top positions. Their latest Exposure Light was won in the prize draw by Jon Virgoe (Berks on Bikes).
In between races riders competed in a King of the Hill competition. A simple format against the clock; power up an ever steepening climb with a tricky dogleg turn. The crowd at the top were giving riders great support and cheers of encouragement willing them up the final leg burning steep. Nick Onslow (Pedal On) was victorious in just over 20 seconds, with 2nd and 3rd separated by tenths of seconds. Great fun, and something we look forward to repeating next year.
Our official event photographer Guy Swarbrick was hiding in the woods capturing some great high quality photos during both sets of races. Guy's photos are for sale at very reasonable prices on his website.
